Description
A pair of antique Chinese lotus shoes, traditionally worn by women with bound feet, dating from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period. The uppers are constructed from vibrant red silk satin featuring contrasting blue silk binding along the top edge. The shoes are elaborately hand-embroidered with silk threads in shades of white and pale green, depicting traditional motifs of rabbits and scrolling floral vines. The silhouette features the characteristic pointed-toe and small proportions associated with this practice. The interiors are lined with a neutral-toned light fabric. The heavy leather outsoles are finished with a small stacked heel, secured with visible metal nails. These items represent a significant example of historical Chinese textile art and social history.
