Description
A pair of mid-20th century advertising toffee hammers, traditionally used for breaking slabs of hard-set confectionery. The first hammer features the embossed name Sharps in cursive script on the handle, identifying it as promotional merchandise for Edward Sharp and Sons Ltd of Maidstone, Kent. The second hammer features the embossed name BLUE BIRD in block capitals on the handle, identifying it as promotional merchandise for Harry Vincent Ltd of Hunnington, West Midlands. Both items are manufactured from cast base metal with a plated finish. Each handle terminates in a rounded end featuring a circular aperture for hanging. The Sharps hammer has a smooth handle profile, while the Blue Bird hammer exhibits a textured, pebbled finish to the casting.
