Six Biltons Ironstone Coffee Cups and Matching Saucers

A set of six cylindrical coffee cups with simple loop handles and six matching circular saucers manufactured by Biltons Tableware Ltd. of Staffordshire, England. The items are crafted from ironstone with a cream-coloured body and a fine brown speckled underglaze finish, commonly referred to as an oatmeal glaze. The decoration features a repeating pattern of stylised, vertical lanceolate leaf or seed motifs in a dark brown tone, reflecting the mid-century modern aesthetic prevalent in British mass-produced tableware during the late 1960s and 1970s. Each saucer bears a printed backstamp on the underside featuring a stylised letter B within a rectangle above the word BILTONS, followed by Tableware, UNDERGLAZE, DETERGENT, and PROOF. The central text is encircled by the words IRONSTONE TABLEWARE at the top and STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND at the bottom.
