A Britannia Designs Ltd Ceramic Mug with Horse Motif

A cylindrical earthenware mug produced by Britannia Designs Ltd in Dartmouth, Devon. The piece features a vibrant yellow-ochre glaze to the exterior and a honey-toned glaze to the base. The central decoration consists of a transfer-printed portrait of a brown horse’s head in profile, depicted wearing a bridle. A relief-moulded Greek key border encircles the lower section of the mug. The D-shaped handle and the rim are finished with a silver-tone metallic lustre glaze. The underside bears a black printed maker’s mark featuring a seated Britannia figure with a Union Jack shield and trident, surrounded by the text BRITANNIA DESIGNS LTD DARTMOUTH ENGLAND. An impressed vertical mark is also present on the base.
