Lot 9:
Description
A hand-carved soapstone sculpture of African origin, likely Kisii, depicting two elephants in a symmetrical pose. The figures are rendered in a light-tan matte-finished stone with stylized anatomical features, including textured ears and trunks. The elephants are positioned facing one another on an integral rough-hewn rectangular base, with their trunks raised and joined to form a central arch. This piece reflects the mid-century modern interest in organic forms and global folk art. No maker’s marks or signatures are present. Dimensions: approximately 14 cm in width, 12 cm in height.
