Ambrose Shardlow and Moore & Wright, Vintage Outside Micrometer Set, Mid-20th Century

This lot comprises a vintage precision engineering set featuring two outside micrometers. The larger instrument is manufactured by Ambrose Shardlow & Co. Ltd. of Sheffield, England, and is constructed with a cast iron frame and steel spindle. The barrel is engraved with the maker’s mark AMBROSE SHARDLOW & CO LTD SHEFFIELD ENG and a detailed decimal equivalent table for fractions including 1/64, 13/16, and 15/16. The smaller micrometer is attributed to Moore & Wright, Sheffield, based on the accompanying branded rust-preventative paper. The set is housed in a rectangular wooden storage box with a sliding lid and a gold-coloured flock-lined interior. Included accessories are two steel gauge standards, one clearly marked 3 INCH, and their original M&W branded cardboard protective tubes.
