Description
This collection comprises four pieces of early 20th-century English porcelain crested ware, a popular genre of souvenir ceramics. Also included is a Shelley China model of a tennis racket and balls bearing the Wakefield fleur-de-lis crest, and a W.H. Goss model of an Ancient Stone Vessel from Dover Castle featuring the Burnham crest. The final piece is a small cylindrical cup decorated with the crest of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Each piece is executed in white glazed porcelain with polychrome transfer-printed decoration and gilt highlights. Maker marks and registration numbers are present on the undersides, including the Arcadian crown mark (Reg. No. 712455) and the W.H. Goss falcon mark (Rd. No. 390788). Bridge length approximately 105mm; racket length approximately 125mm.
Condition report:
The collection is in good overall condition. There is minor expected wear and rubbing to the gilding on the rims and edges consistent with age. No chips, cracks, or evidence of repair were noted upon inspection.
