Description

A charming pair of early 20th-century miniature souvenir items produced by Arkinstall and Son under the Arcadian brand in Stoke-on-Trent. This set comprises two distinct forms: a four-poster bed and a high-back armchair, both fashioned from white glazed porcelain. Each piece is decorated with a transfer-printed municipal coat of arms, with the bed displaying the crest for Hadleigh and the chair featuring Bognor Regis. The miniatures are further characterised by the inclusion of hand-painted black cat figurines, a popular lucky motif of the period, finished with orange collars and delicate gilt accents to the rims and edges. The underside of the bed bears the printed Arcadian crown backstamp for A. and S. Stoke-on-Trent, accompanied by the text Registration Applied For. These items are classic examples of the heraldic crested ware that became a significant collecting phenomenon in Britain during the Edwardian and interwar eras. Dimensions: Bed approximately 75mm in length; Chair approximately 65mm in height.

Condition report:

Both pieces are in good antique condition. There is minor expected rubbing to the gilded highlights on the edges and the cats\' features, consistent with age and handling. No chips, cracks, or professional restorations are evident.
