Description

A pair of early 20th-century commemorative crested porcelain figurines produced by Wiltshaw and Robinson under the Carlton China brand, dating to the World War I era. The lot consists of two pieces: a moulded figurine of a nurse wearing a Red Cross emblem, decorated with the City of London coat of arms and the motto DOMINE DIRIGE NOS, and a model of a military searchlight inscribed Model of British Searchlight THE ZEPPELIN F. Both items are constructed from white glazed porcelain featuring polychrome transfer-printed decorations and gilt rim accents. The undersides bear the W and R STOKE ON TRENT CARLTON CHINA maker’s mark. The nurse figurine includes an additional rectangular retail mark for BENJAMIN HARRIS THE CHOCOLATE KING KINGS CROSS. These pieces are classic examples of heraldic or crested china produced for the souvenir market with specific military interest relating to the Great War. Dimensions unavailable.
