G80 Weekly General Auction Monday
Lot 24:
Description
A single pair of ornate grape scissors featuring cast handles in high relief. The decorative motif depicts the classic Aesop’s Fable of The Fox and the Grapes, with detailed clusters of grapes, vine leaves, and a seated fox figure on each arm. The tool is constructed with one smooth blade and one serrated blade, joined by a central button pivot. While small markings are present on the interior of the finger loops, they are not sufficiently legible to confirm a specific maker or hallmark. This style of figural dining silver was highly popular during the Victorian period for the service of dessert. Material: Silver coloured. Quantity: 1. Measurements and weight not recorded.
