Royal Doulton Ceramic Character Jug, Mid-20th Century, Old King Cole

A Royal Doulton character jug of Old King Cole, expertly crafted in hand-painted glazed ceramic. This single lot depicts the merry monarch with a detailed flesh-toned face, wearing a brown crown decorated with embossed heart motifs and the words OLD KING to the side. The base is formed by a crisp white ruff collar, and the vessel features a simple curved brown handle. The interior is finished in a contrasting pale green glaze. The underside is stamped with the standard Royal Doulton green underglaze lion and crown maker’s mark for England, accompanied by a small hand-painted decorator’s mark. This model was originally designed by Harry Fenton and remains a classic example of the factory’s character ware. Height: Approximately 9 cm.
