Description

An extensive and historically significant collection of British military training materials, primarily originating from the School of Service Intelligence (SSI) and the Intelligence Centre at Ashford, Kent, dating from the late Cold War period (c. 1970s–1980s). This comprehensive lot includes a variety of instructional manuals, many marked Restricted, covering critical intelligence disciplines such as Joint Services Interrogation, Soviet Army Organisation Tables (dated March 1985), and NATO Military Symbols. Notable components include a 1 (BR) Corps Threat Recognition Guide and multiple sheets of 35mm photographic slides used for identifying Eastern Bloc armoured vehicles, including the T-55 tank. The collection features tactical aids from the Tactics Wing (Platoon Commanders Division) and map marking guides, alongside Ordnance Survey maps of Ashford and West London from 1978 and 1982. One manual is specifically named to a Cpl Margiotta of the Royal Military Police (RMP), offering potential for further genealogical or service history research. The entire collection is housed in an original heavy-duty olive-drab composite transport crate, stencilled Training Aids and originally intended for inert projectiles. This lot provides a rare insight into the British Army’s preparation and pedagogical approach to the Soviet threat during the final decade of the Cold War.
