Description
This lot consists of one modern reproduction of a conical nasal helmet, styled after 11th-12th century European Norman or Crusader designs. The helmet is constructed from metal, featuring a two-piece skull joined at a central ridge and terminating in a pointed apex. A decorative brow band with a serrated vandyked upper edge is riveted to the base of the skull. A broad, faceted nasal guard is fixed to the front via a central rivet. The piece is equipped with a mail aventail or camail attached to the sides and rear through a series of pre-drilled holes along the lower rim. The mail consists of butted circular wire links. It includes an adjustable leather chin strap with a simple roller buckle. No maker stamps or military markings are present, identifying this as a civilian reproduction for decorative or re-enactment purposes. Blade length: N/A.
