Lot 297:
Description
A German commemorative event badge, commonly known as a tinnie, produced during the Third Reich era to mark the Tag der deutschen Seefahrt (Day of German Seafaring) on 25-26 May 1935. This oval-shaped badge is struck from metal and features a detailed three-masted sailing vessel at its centre. The design is topped by a national eagle with outspread wings holding a wreathed swastika. The border carries the embossed motto SEEFAHRT IST NOT (Seafaring is Necessary) along with the event title and date. A nautical anchor serves as the base of the design. These badges were widely distributed to attendees and supporters of national maritime celebrations during the pre-war period.
