Description

A pair of high-quality commemorative service medals awarded to 23074990 Sapper (SPR) M. Matthews of the Royal Engineers for service during the mid-1950s. These medals were produced by Award Productions Ltd and were commissioned by veterans to recognise periods of service for which no official British campaign medal was struck at the time. The first item is a National Service Commemorative Medal (1939-1960), featuring a seated Britannia and lion on the obverse. It is named to the rim and includes three silver-tone clasps: ROYAL ENGINEERS, 1954 – 1956, and GERMANY. It is accompanied by its original certificate of authenticity (No. 112521). The second item is a British Forces Germany Commemorative Medal, depicting an Army and RAF serviceman on the obverse. The reverse is formally engraved within a laurel wreath with the recipient’s details and service dates. This medal also features three matching clasps: ROYAL ENGINEERS, 1954 – 1956, and GERMANY. This lot represents a complete personal set for a National Serviceman stationed in West Germany during the height of the Cold War.
