Description
This is a Spanish military shako plate, known as a Placa de Ros, belonging to the 1st Signal Regiment (Regimiento de Transmisiones nº 1). Originating from the early 20th century, the badge features the Spanish Royal Crown, identifying it as a piece from the reign of Alfonso XIII prior to the establishment of the Second Republic in 1931. The central iconography includes a winged wheel, a traditional symbol for transport and movement, combined with lightning bolts to represent telegraphy and signalling. These components are framed by a large bugle or hunting horn, a motif frequently utilised by Spanish technical and light infantry units. The central circular boss is stamped with the numeral 1, which has been enhanced with black paint for visibility. The item is manufactured from stamped brass and originally featured a gilt finish. Dimensions are approximately 70mm by 60mm.
