C73 Two Day Auction Last One Of The Year
Lot 234:
Description
A trio of Chinese export ceramic figural sculptures, dating to the mid-to-late 20th century. The figures are characterized by high-gloss polychrome glazing, primarily in deep cobalt blue, mottled dark greens, orange, and light blue, contrasting with unglazed or matte facial and skin features. The style is consistent with modern Shiwan or Wanjiang ceramic traditions. The set includes three distinct compositions: one figure depicting an elderly man accompanied by a child, holding a large staff; and two figures representing elderly fishermen seated on rock-form bases. The fishermen figures retain their delicate non-ceramic fishing rods and attached ceramic fish. The undersides of the hollow bases bear hand-painted numerical annotations such as 197, 72, and 37. One base also features a red stamped inscription reading MADE IN CHINA.
