Cast Iron Mechanical Bank depicting Jonah and the Whale

A cast iron mechanical bank depicting the biblical scene of Jonah and the Whale. The bank features a dark black whale with an open mouth positioned opposite a yellow lifeboat containing two figures, one of whom is wearing a red coat. The scene is mounted on a rectangular base molded to resemble blue ocean waves. The base itself is painted a reddish-brown or maroon and displays the raised, gold-painted text JONAH AND THE WHALE. The bank is constructed from multiple cast iron components secured by screws visible on the underside. The underside also features a circular black coin trap and four small metal feet. This pattern is widely attributed to the original design by Shepard Hardware, though this example may be a later period reproduction.
