Description
This Spanish novelty decanter is fashioned from cast resin and depicts a convivial scene of two monks or friars in traditional robes. One monk leans over a large central wine barrel, while the other sits on a low stool, pouring from or holding a small brown vessel. A small animal, possibly a dog, is nestled at their feet. The barrel features a removable cylindrical stopper at the top, indicating the item was designed to hold a small quantity of liquid. The piece is finished with a multi-tone surface in yellowish-brown tones intended to simulate aged bone, ivory, or carved wood. The scene is mounted on an integral base with a dark brown-painted rim and a brown felt-covered underside. The base features an official blue and white Spanish tax stamp (Precinta de Circulación) for alcohol and derived beverages for quantities up to one decilitre, displaying the Spanish coat of arms.
