A Chinese Famille Rose Medallion Porcelain Table Lamp

A Chinese porcelain table lamp, the body composed of an export ware porcelain vessel decorated in the traditional Famille Rose Rose Medallion palette. The overglaze enamel decoration consists of alternating panels; two panels depicting Mandarin figures in domestic settings and two panels featuring birds and floral sprays. These reserves are set against a densely patterned ground of scrolling flowers, butterflies, and fruit. A band of blue and white thunder fretwork encircles the shoulder. The porcelain is mounted upon a turned dark wood circular base. The lamp is fitted with a brass bayonet-cap bulb holder and is accompanied by a cream fabric shade featuring a scalloped rim and tassel fringe. The electrical cord is fitted with a modern UK three-pin plug. No maker marks or reign marks are visible to the base of the porcelain due to the wooden mount.
