Description

This lot comprises three pieces of English ceramic teaware and coffee-ware. The primary item is an earthenware teapot by James Sadler of rectangular barrel section with rounded corners, featuring an ornate handle and a short spout. The lid is rectangular with a bow-form finial. The body is decorated with relief-moulded floral patterns in a cream glaze, with oval panels on both sides featuring gilded borders and transfer-printed, hand-coloured landscape scenes titled The Abbey Falls. The base bears a black printed Sadler backstamp with a crown and banner, alongside a hand-painted pattern number H 1716. The second item is a tall, cylindrical earthenware coffee pot with a long, upward-curving spout and a flat lid finished in a turquoise glaze with a circular knob. The cream-glazed body is decorated on one side with a transfer-printed floral motif in shades of blue and purple. The base is impressed with the number 312 and England. The third piece is a small, globular teapot in a plain white glaze with a matching domed lid and simple loop handle.
