A Vintage Ceramic Hen on Nest Covered Dish

A two-part novelty covered dish, comprising a lid moulded in the form of a nesting hen and a circular base. The item is fashioned from glazed earthenware with a cream ground. The hen lid features hand-applied and sponged decoration in shades of dark brown and grey to represent plumage, with a yellow beak and red-painted comb and wattles. The circular base has a scalloped upper rim and is decorated with a dark, shaded horizontal band around the middle. The interior is finished with a clear glaze. No manufacturer marks or stamps are present on the underside.
