A Contemporary Carved Hardwood Box with Pierced Lattice Lid

A contemporary carved hardwood box, resembling examples produced by Nirman, featuring a rectangular form and a hand-carved pierced lattice-work lid. The lid is decorated with a repeating geometric pattern of quatrefoil and cross motifs. The exterior surfaces are finished with a dark stain, while the interior reveals the natural light-coloured wood grain. This style of vessel is frequently associated with the storage of amber or incense. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible. A British one-pound coin is present for scale.
