Description

A vintage office intercom and internal telephone system housed in a polished hardwood cabinet, likely mahogany or stained oak. The unit features a green felt-lined base and a front panel equipped with a master toggle switch set against a metal plate marked OFF, positioned below a red glass indicator jewel. The lower section of the cabinet contains a recessed panel with four toggle switches. Above these switches is a brass-toned strip with printed labels identifying functional destinations: GEN. OFF., DEEDS, MORTGAGE, and POST. To the side is a metal cradle holding a circular brown bakelite earpiece receiver connected by a fabric-covered cord. The interior of the cabinet contains electromechanical components, including solenoids, a terminal block, and original wiring, with no vacuum tubes present. This piece is consistent with mid-20th-century British administrative equipment, specifically designed for use within a solicitor or surveyor firm.
