Description
An EKCO Model A.110 tabletop valve radio, manufactured by E.K. Cole Limited in Southend-on-Sea, England. This mains-powered receiver is housed in a cabinet featuring a central wooden veneer section flanked by rounded dark brown composite or Bakelite end panels. The front is dominated by a large rectangular metal mesh speaker grille, with the EKCO logo and stylized E emblem positioned below. Tuning is facilitated through two small rectangular windows on the lower front panel. The rear panel is constructed from perforated hardboard for ventilation, revealing internal vacuum tubes or valves. It includes printed specifications for A.C. mains operation at 200/250 volts and 50/100 cycles. Connection ports are provided for aerial, earth, external loudspeaker, and a pick-up for turntable integration, alongside a toggle switch for internal or external speaker selection. A licence plate referencing British and Eirean patents is fixed to the rear. This model represents a significant era in British electronics before the widespread adoption of the transistor radio.
