French Vallauris Cazanova Ceramic Dog-Form Flask

A mid-20th-century ceramic flask or decanter realistically modelled in the form of a reclining dog, possibly a dachshund or hound. The piece is finished in a high-gloss, mottled brown and amber glaze, characteristic of the Rockingham or tortoiseshell style. The animal is depicted with its head turned, holding a cork stopper in its mouth. The underside of the piece features an incised number 63 and a black stamped mark containing the text EXCLUSIVITE, CAZANOVA, VALLAURIS – FRANCE, and MADE IN FRANCE. This item originates from the noted pottery centre of Vallauris, France.
